Equine Fencing
Equine Fencing
Equine fencing provides a safe, durable and low-maintenance alternative to traditional post and rail fencing. Designed specifically with horses in mind, specialist horse netting features smaller openings to help prevent hooves and legs from becoming caught in the fence.
Manufactured from high-tensile galvanised wire, equine netting is designed to retain its shape and tension. If a horse leans against the fence, the high-tensile wire is able to spring back rather than simply stretching and becoming slack.
Horse netting is also a versatile choice for mixed livestock and rural properties. As well as horses, it can help contain cattle, sheep and goats, while also providing an effective boundary for pets such as dogs.
The netting can be installed as a standalone fence or fitted to new or existing post and rail fencing. A popular option is to add a strand of electric fencing wire or rope above the main fence, helping discourage horses from leaning over the boundary into neighbouring paddocks.
Horse Netting
We stock various types of equestrian-friendly netting, manufactured by Tornado Wire in the UK.
Tornado's high-tensile wire is heavily galvanised to provide a long service life. Combined with quality fencing posts and correct installation, it provides a strong and dependable fencing system for paddocks and other equestrian areas.
High-tensile horse netting is traditionally manufactured with hinge-joint knots. This construction provides flexibility and allows the fencing to accommodate changes in direction and more specialist installations.
Alternative knot designs are also available, including the Torus knot. This creates a strong, smooth joint without protruding sharp edges and incorporates a continuous vertical stay wire.
Where horses are kept on both sides of a paddock boundary, double fencing is highly recommended to reduce the risk of horses making contact across the fence.
Electric Fencing for Horses
Electric fencing is a versatile way to create either temporary or permanent boundaries for horses and paddocks.
At RGH Supplies, our electric fencing range includes products from established manufacturers including Gallagher UK, Agrifence, Rappa, Rutland and Speedrite Electric Fencing.
Using good-quality components is particularly important with electric fencing. A reliable system depends on suitable posts, conductors, insulators and an appropriately specified energiser working together.
For temporary paddocks and boundaries, lightweight polyposts provide a convenient solution and can usually be installed quickly by stepping them directly into the ground.
We stock a comprehensive range of:
-
Electric fence posts
-
Insulators and offsets
-
Reels
-
Energisers
-
Fence testers
-
Polywire
-
Electric fencing rope
-
Strip-grazing equipment
We can also supply dedicated strip-grazing systems such as the Gallagher SmartFence.
Permanent Electric Horse Fencing
For permanent electric-only horse fencing, we recommend using minimum UC4 treated posts with suitable screw-on, nail-on or staple-on insulators.
These can be combined with Agrifence Braided Maxi Rope, which has been designed specifically with horses in mind. The rope is designed to break under sufficient pressure, helping reduce the risk of a horse becoming trapped or tangled in an electrified fence.
Electric fencing can also be combined with equine netting to create a highly visible and effective paddock boundary.
Sand Schools & Riding Arenas
A well-designed sand school or riding arena gives you a dedicated space for riding, schooling, jumping and exercising horses throughout the year.
Many sand schools are enclosed using a three-rail post and rail fence with double kick boards. A wide timber field gate — commonly around 12 feet — can provide convenient access for horses, riders and the machinery required to maintain the arena surface.
We can also supply suitable membranes for installation beneath arena surfaces.
Because of the investment involved in installing a high-quality riding surface, the surrounding fencing should be built for longevity. Replacing rotten fencing while the arena surface itself remains serviceable can result in unnecessary disruption and expense.
At RGH Supplies, we supply Department for Transport (DOT) specification, UC4 and Creosote as well as various metal posts, selected for demanding outdoor fencing applications and long-term performance.
Equestrian Gates
The right gate is an important part of any riding arena, sand school, paddock, bridleway or stable area.
Our range of high-quality timber gates includes:
-
Sawn softwood gates
-
Planed-all-round softwood gates
-
Iroko hardwood gates
Standard sizes are stocked from 3ft to 12ft wide, in one-foot increments.
We can also arrange bespoke gates to suit individual requirements. This includes taller stallion gates and other specialist equestrian configurations.
A wide range of Gatemate gate furniture from Birkdale is also available. Rider-friendly fittings such as kick-over latches, equestrian latches and hunt latches can make gateways much easier to operate from horseback, reducing the need to dismount when moving between areas.
Horse Drinking Troughs
Reliable access to clean drinking water is essential in paddocks, yards and stable areas.
At RGH Supplies, we stock drinking troughs and watering equipment from manufacturers including JFC, IAE, Bateman and Fisher Alvin, together with the water pipe and fittings required for installation.
Our range includes UV-stable plastic drinking troughs in various capacities, as well as durable galvanised steel troughs. Low-level troughs are particularly popular for equestrian applications.
We can also supply horse-operated drinking bowls and space-saving corner troughs, making it easier to choose a watering system suited to your stable, yard or paddock.
